Place value decimals help us understand the value of numbers that are less than one. In the decimal system, each digit has a position that tells us how much it is worth. For example, in the number 3.45, the 3 is in the 'ones' place, meaning it is worth 3. The 4 is in the 'tenths' place, which means it is worth four-tenths or 0.4. Lastly, the 5 is in the 'hundredths' place, representing five-hundredths or 0.05. By knowing the value of each digit based on its place, we can read and write decimal numbers accurately.
