The Trail of Tears was a forced journey taken by Native American tribes, especially the Cherokee, in the 1830s. The U.S. government wanted to take their land in the southeastern United States to grow cotton. Thousands of Native Americans were made to leave their homes and walk hundreds of miles to designated areas in present-day Oklahoma. Many faced harsh weather, disease, and starvation along the way. This tragic event resulted in the loss of thousands of lives and is remembered as a painful part of American history. The name 'Trail of Tears' reflects the suffering and sorrow experienced during this journey.
