The government has three main branches: the Legislative, the Executive, and the Judicial. The Legislative branch makes the laws and is made up of two groups called Congress, which includes the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Executive branch carries out the laws and is led by the President. Lastly, the Judicial branch interprets the laws and includes the Supreme Court. For example, if Congress passes a new law, the President must sign it before it can go into effect. Each branch has its own powers and responsibilities, which helps to make sure no one branch becomes too powerful.
