Clauses and phrases are important parts of sentences. A clause is a group of words that has both a subject and a verb. For example, in the sentence "The dog barks loudly," "The dog" is the subject and "barks" is the verb. There are two types of clauses: independent clauses, which can stand alone as sentences, and dependent clauses, which cannot. A phrase, on the other hand, is a group of words that does not have both a subject and a verb. For instance, "in the park" is a prepositional phrase that tells us where something happens. Understanding the difference between clauses and phrases helps you create more complex and interesting sentences. Using them together can make your writing clearer and more engaging.
