Ancient Mesopotamia, often called the 'Cradle of Civilization,' was located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in what is now Iraq. This region was home to some of the world's earliest cities, like Ur and Babylon. Mesopotamians developed a system of writing called cuneiform, which involved making wedge-shaped marks on clay tablets. They used this writing for record-keeping, storytelling, and even laws. Agriculture thrived in Mesopotamia due to the fertile land created by river flooding, allowing people to grow crops like wheat and barley. This abundance of food led to population growth and the formation of complex societies. One famous example of Mesopotamian achievement is the Code of Hammurabi, one of the earliest written legal codes, which established rules for justice and order in society.
