Genetic traits are characteristics that organisms inherit from their parents. These traits are determined by genes, which are tiny segments of DNA found in every cell. Genes come in different forms called alleles. For example, a gene that controls flower color in plants might have a purple allele and a white allele. If a plant inherits one purple allele from one parent and one white allele from the other, the flower may end up being purple because purple is the dominant trait. This means it will show up in the plantโ€™s appearance. Other traits, like eye color in humans, can also be influenced by multiple genes, making inheritance a bit more complex. Understanding genetic traits helps scientists learn about heredity and how traits are passed down through generations.
