A republic and a democracy are two different ways to organize a government. In a democracy, the people have the power to make decisions directly, often through voting on laws and policies. For example, in a direct democracy, citizens might vote on every issue, like whether to build a new park. In a republic, the people still have the power, but they elect representatives to make decisions for them. This means that instead of voting on every single issue, citizens choose leaders who they trust to represent their interests. The United States is a good example of a republic. Citizens vote for senators and representatives who then create laws on their behalf. Both systems value the idea of government by the people, but they operate in different ways to manage decision-making.
