Volume is the amount of space an object occupies, measured in cubic units. To find the volume of a rectangular prism, you multiply its length, width, and height. For example, if a box has a length of 4 cm, a width of 3 cm, and a height of 5 cm, you can calculate its volume by multiplying: 4 cm ร— 3 cm ร— 5 cm, which equals 60 cubic centimeters (cmยณ). This means the box can hold 60 cmยณ of material inside it. For more complex shapes, like cylinders, you use a different formula. The volume of a cylinder is calculated by multiplying the area of its circular base by its height. Understanding volume helps in real-life situations, like packing boxes or filling a swimming pool.
