The electromagnetic spectrum is the range of all types of light waves, from the ones we can see to those we cannot. It includes radio waves, microwaves, infrared radiation, visible light, ultraviolet radiation, X-rays, and gamma rays. Each type of wave has a different wavelength and frequency. For example, visible light is the small part of the spectrum that humans can see, which allows us to perceive colors. In contrast, radio waves have much longer wavelengths and are used for communication, like broadcasting music on the radio. On the other hand, X-rays have very short wavelengths and can pass through soft tissues, which is why they are used in medicine to view bones. Understanding the electromagnetic spectrum helps scientists and engineers develop technologies that improve our daily lives, from cell phones to medical imaging devices.
