Two-step equations are mathematical equations that require two steps to solve for the unknown variable. The goal is to isolate the variable on one side of the equation. For example, consider the equation 2x + 3 = 11. To solve for x, start by eliminating the constant on the side with the variable. Subtract 3 from both sides, which gives you 2x = 8. Next, divide both sides by 2 to isolate x. Doing this results in x = 4. This means that if you plug 4 back into the original equation, both sides will equal 11. Two-step equations are useful in solving real-world problems, such as figuring out how much money you need to save to buy something or determining the number of items you can purchase within a budget.
