Exponents are a way to express repeated multiplication of a number by itself. An exponent consists of a base and a power. For example, in the expression 3ยฒ, the number 3 is the base, and the 2 is the exponent. This means 3 is multiplied by itself two times: 3 ร— 3, which equals 9. If you see a number with an exponent of 1, like 5ยน, it simply equals 5. When the exponent is 0, such as in 4โฐ, the result is always 1, regardless of the base (as long as the base is not zero). Exponents can also be negative, like 2โปยณ, which means 1 divided by 2ยณ (or 1/8). Understanding exponents helps simplify complex calculations and solve equations more easily.
