Lesson 70 of 84 ยท Weathering and Erosion
Experimentโญ 30 XP๐ Rock RealmSeasons and Earth's Tilt (Part 2)
Weathering and Erosion.
๐ฏ Your mission
Run the experiment. Find out what really happens.
โก The twist
Weather isn't random โ it's just complicated.
Mind = Blown
๐ The deepest part of the ocean is deeper than Mount Everest is tall.
Make a hypothesis first
Before you observe: what shape will it leave?
What You'll Learn
The water cycle describes how water moves through Earth's systems. Water evaporates from oceans, condenses into clouds, falls as precipitation, and flows back to the ocean.
Key Words
- weather
- water cycle
Materials Needed
- cups
- thermometer
- rain gauge
Safety First
- Wash hands after handling materials.
- Be careful with scissors โ ask an adult for help if needed.
- Do not look directly at the sun or bright lights.
Steps
Study the diagram and label the parts you recognize.
Test rock hardness using Mohs scale: try scratching rocks with your fingernail, a penny, and a nail. Rank them from softest to hardest.
Note any unexpected results and think about why they happened.
Share your findings with the class or a partner and discuss what you learned.
