Then & Now

๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ This still shapes laws, borders, and even your school today.

World War I, often referred to as the Great War, lasted from 1914 to 1918 and involved many of the world's great powers, divided into two main alliances: the Allies and the Central Powers. The war was triggered by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary, leading to a complex web of alliances and militaristic tensions that escalated into a full-scale conflict. The introduction of trench warfare and new military technologies, such as tanks and chemical weapons, contributed to unprecedented levels of destruction and loss of life. By the war's end, millions were dead, and the political landscape of Europe was irrevocably altered, setting the stage for future conflicts, including World War II.
