In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, laws like the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 and the Immigration Act of 1924 limited the number of immigrants from certain countries. These laws were often based on racial and national biases. However, over time, new laws emerged, such as the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, which aimed to eliminate discriminatory practices and promote family reunification and skilled immigration.
