The Closing of the Frontier

The concept of the 'closing of the frontier' became prominent in the late 19th century as the U. S. government declared the frontier closed in 1890. This declaration signified the end of an era characterized by westward expansion and settlement. The closing of the frontier had far-reaching implications for American society, as it marked a transition from a nation of settlers to an urbanized society increasingly focused on industrialization and economic growth.

Moreover, it prompted a reflection on American identity and the ideals of opportunity and exploration that had defined the nation during its formative years.
