The Boston Tea Party was a protest that took place on December 16, 1773, in Boston, Massachusetts. American colonists were unhappy with British taxes on tea, which they felt were unfair because they had no representation in the British Parliament. To show their anger, a group of colonists, known as the Sons of Liberty, dressed as Native Americans and boarded three British ships. They dumped 342 chests of tea into Boston Harbor as a way to protest the tax. This event helped spark the American Revolution, as it showed that the colonists were willing to take a stand against British control.
