The coordinate plane is a flat surface where we can plot points using two numbers called coordinates. It has a horizontal line called the x-axis and a vertical line called the y-axis. Together, they create four sections called quadrants. Each point on the plane is identified by an ordered pair, like (3, 2), where 3 is the x-coordinate and 2 is the y-coordinate. For example, to find the point (3, 2), start at the center, move 3 units to the right along the x-axis, and then 2 units up along the y-axis. This system helps us see relationships between numbers and can be used in graphing equations or mapping locations.
