Vocabulary strategies help you understand and remember new words. One effective strategy is using context clues, which are hints found in the text around an unfamiliar word. For example, if you read, 'The girl was ecstatic when she won the contest; her smile was as bright as the sun,' you can figure out that 'ecstatic' means very happy because of the clues 'won the contest' and 'smile.' Another strategy is breaking words into smaller parts to find their meaning. This is called word analysis. For instance, the word 'unhappiness' can be broken down into 'un-' (not), 'happy' (joyful), and '-ness' (state of being), helping you understand it means 'the state of not being happy.' Using these strategies can make learning new vocabulary exciting and easier!
