Connotation and denotation are two ways to understand the meaning of words. Denotation refers to the literal meaning of a word, like what you would find in a dictionary. For example, the word "home" denotes a place where someone lives. On the other hand, connotation includes the feelings or ideas that a word suggests beyond its literal meaning. The word "home" connotes warmth, comfort, and safety. This means that while the denotation of "home" is just a physical place, its connotation can evoke strong emotions. Understanding both connotation and denotation helps us choose our words carefully and understand what others mean. For example, calling someone "childish" has a negative connotation, while saying they are "youthful" has a positive one, even though both words can describe a similar behavior.
