I had a friend who was going through a hard time. I was determined to be there for her. The challenge was to know what to say. I had a responsibility to be kind. I listened. I learned to appreciate how much listening matters. My friendship had a positive influence on her. She said it helped. It became a tradition for us to talk. Our community was the two of us. We had achieved a stronger bond. I had discovered that being a friend is important. I would never forget her gratitude. The friendship had taught me about empathy. I was grateful I could help.
