Then & Now
๐ฐ๏ธ The choices made back then are why the world looks like this now.
The Articles of Confederation served as the first constitution for the United States, adopted in 1781. This document established a confederation of sovereign states with a weak central government, which limited its ability to enact laws, regulate commerce, and enforce taxes. While it represented an important step towards unifying the thirteen colonies, the Articles proved inadequate in addressing the challenges of governance, leading to economic turmoil and interstate conflicts. Ultimately, the weaknesses of the Articles prompted the Constitutional Convention of 1787, where a new framework for government was created, leading to the adoption of the U.S. Constitution.
