Practice cropping in this art lesson: cropping for impact.

🎨 Studio Brief #4

How you crop (frame) an image dramatically changes its impact.

🎯 Your mission

Trust your hands more than your head.

⚡ The twist

Don't fix mistakes. Build with them.

What you'll learn

Step 1 of 3

Cut a small rectangle from cardboard to use as a viewfinder.

Step 2 of 3

Hold it over a photograph or painting. Move it around to find the most dramatic crop.

Step 3 of 3

Draw or paint just what you see through the viewfinder—not the whole image.
