Texture Drawing Sampler (Part 6)

Practice texture in this art lesson: texture drawing sampler (part 6).

🎨 Studio Brief #66

Create a grid of squares and fill each one with a different texture: wood grain, bricks, fur, feathers, scales, and more.

🎯 Your mission

See the shape under the thing. Draw the shape first.

⚡ The twist

Don't lift the pencil until you're done.

What you'll learn

Create a grid of squares and fill each one with a different texture: wood grain, bricks, fur, feathers, scales, and more. This is your texture library for future drawings.

Step 2 of 4

Label each square with a texture: wood, brick, grass, water, fur, scales, metal, fabric, stone.

Step 3 of 4

Use different pencil marks in each square: short strokes for fur, wavy lines for water, crosshatch for fabric.

Step 4 of 4

Compare your textures. Which feel most realistic? Practice your weakest ones on a separate sheet.

✨ More to explore

🌍 Where you see this: Every comic, animation, and architecture started with a quick sketch.

🏆 Try this week: Draw the same object three times this week — once a day, slower each time.

👨‍👩‍👧 At dinner: “Show me your sketch. What's the part you'd do differently next time?”
