Step 1 of 4

Choose one color. Paint a swatch of the pure color in the center of your paper.

Step 2 of 4

Mix the color with increasing amounts of white to create 4 tints. Paint them in order.

Step 3 of 4

Mix the color with increasing amounts of black to create 4 shades. Paint them in order.

Step 4 of 4

Try mixing with gray to create tones. Compare tints, shades, and tones.
