Half of 51
Half of 51 is 25½
51 ÷ 2 = 25½
51 is an odd number, so it does not split into two equal whole groups — 25½ means 25 and a half.
How to find half of 51
- 1Half means splitting 51 into 2 equal groups, so work out 51 ÷ 2.
- 251 is an odd number, so it will not split into two equal whole groups — one group always ends up with one more.
- 3Put 25 in each group and there is 1 left over. Split that last one in half too.
- 4So half of 51 is 25½ — 25 and a half. The even numbers either side, 50 and 52, halve to 25 and 26.
Check it: put the two halves back together and you get 25½ + 25½ = 51.
