Question Marks Lift Your Voice

A question mark looks like a hook with a dot under it. It shows that someone is asking something. When you read a question, your voice often goes up at the end. Say 'You have a dog. ' Now say 'You have a dog?

' The words are the same, but the second one sounds like asking because your voice rises. Many questions start with words like who, what, where, when, why, or can. When you spot the question mark, get your asking voice ready before you reach the end.
