Blending Three Sounds into a Word

Blending means joining sounds to make a word. Many first words have three sounds: a consonant, a vowel, and a consonant. We call them CVC words. Here is how to blend 'sit'. Touch each letter and say its sound: /s/ /i/ /t/.

Then say the sounds again, faster and faster, until they slide together into one word: sit. If the word sounds strange, check each sound again. Maybe you used the wrong vowel sound.

Blending gets quicker with practice, and soon you will see 'sit' and just know it.
