Sorting Words into Groups

Words can be sorted into groups called categories. 'Apple', 'banana', and 'grape' are all fruits. 'Hammer', 'saw', and 'drill' are all tools. Sorting words helps you understand and remember them, because your brain stores words in groups.

You can also find the word that doesn't belong. Look at: robin, eagle, goldfish, owl. Three are birds, but a goldfish swims, so it doesn't belong. When you learn a new word, ask what group it fits in.

A 'parka' is a kind of coat, so it goes with clothes.
