The Prefix re-

A prefix is a word part added to the start of a word. It changes the meaning. The prefix re- means 'again'. So 'redo' means do again, 'reread' means read again, and 'refill' means fill again.

When you see a word starting with re-, cover it, read the base word, then add 'again'. Read: 'The glass was empty, so I had to refill it. ' Refill means fill again. Be careful: not every word starting with r-e has this prefix.

In 'read' and 'real', the re is just part of the word.
