Butterflies go through a special process called a life cycle. This cycle has four stages: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and adult butterfly. First, a butterfly lays eggs on a plant. Then, the eggs hatch into caterpillars, which eat leaves and grow. After eating enough, the caterpillar forms a chrysalis around itself. Finally, it emerges as a beautiful adult butterfly, ready to fly and lay more eggs!
