Fractions of shapes show us how parts of a whole can be divided. For example, if we have a pizza cut into 4 equal slices, each slice is one-fourth, or 1/4, of the whole pizza. If you take 2 slices, you have 2/4, which is the same as 1/2 of the pizza. This means you have half of the whole pizza! Understanding fractions helps us see how much of a shape we have at any time.
