Long i Spelled igh and y

Read long i in words like night and my.

Long i has two spellings you'll see a lot. The first is igh, where the g and h are silent: 'night', 'light', 'high', 'right', 'bright'. Just say long i and the letters around it. 'Light' is /l/ /eye/ /t/.

The second spelling is y at the end of a short word: 'my', 'by', 'fly', 'cry', 'sky'. When y is the only vowel at the end, it says long i. Read: 'At night, my kite flew high in the sky. ' Four long i words with two different spellings!
