Open Vowels: go, me, hi

Learn that a vowel at the end of a short word is usually long.

When a vowel comes at the very end of a short word, with nothing closing it in, it usually says its name. We call it open, like an open door. Look at 'go', 'no', and 'so'. The o is at the end, so it's long. 'Me', 'he', 'we', and 'she' have long e.

'Hi' has long i. Compare 'got' and 'go'. In 'got', t closes the o in, so it's short. In 'go', the door is open, so it's long. Read: 'We go so far, she said hi to me! '
