Getting a Library Card

Learn how a library card lets you borrow books for free.

A library is a place full of books you can borrow for free. To borrow, you usually need a library card. A grown-up can help you sign up at the front desk.

When you find books you want, you bring them and your card to the desk, and the librarian checks them out to you. That means the books are yours to read for a while, often two or three weeks. Then you bring them back so other kids can enjoy them.

With a card, you can try many books without buying any.
