How Does the Character Feel?

Use words, actions, and pictures to tell a character's feelings.

Authors do not always say how a character feels. Sometimes you have to figure it out from clues. Look at what the character does, says, and how they look in the picture. Read: 'Omar's lip shook. He hugged his blanket and looked at the dark window.

' The author never says 'scared,' but a shaking lip, hugging a blanket, and looking at the dark are all clues. Omar feels scared. Knowing feelings helps you understand why characters act the way they do.
