Finding the Lesson in a Story

Figure out what a story teaches us about how to act.

Some stories teach a lesson, also called a moral. The lesson is something we can learn and use in our own lives. It is usually not said out loud, so you think about what the character learned.

Read: 'Rosa told her brother she broke the vase, even though she was scared. Mom hugged her and said thank you for being honest. ' What can we learn? Telling the truth is the right thing, even when it is hard.

To find a lesson, ask, 'What did the character learn that I could learn too? '

• 1A lesson, or moral, is something the story teaches.
• 2It is usually not said out loud.
• 3Ask what the character learned.
