Primary Retelling Review: The Whole Story

Retell a full story with characters, setting, problem, solution, and order words.

Let's put every retelling tool together. Read: 'One windy morning at the farm, Hen could not find her three chicks. First, she looked in the barn. Next, she asked Cow, who had not seen them. Then she heard peeping under the hay.

The chicks were hiding from the wind. Hen tucked them under her wings.

' A full retell names the character (Hen), the setting (a windy farm), the problem (lost chicks), the events in order with order words, and the solution (she found them in the hay). The lesson might be that families look out for each other.

• 1Name the characters and setting.
• 2Tell the problem and events in order.
• 3End with the solution, and the lesson if there is one.
