An ecosystem is a community of living things and their environment. Everything is connected. Plants make food using sunlight. They need soil and water. Animals eat plants or other animals. They need shelter. When animals die their bodies break down. They help the soil. New plants grow. The cycle keeps going. Insects pollinate flowers. Birds eat insects. Every part matters. If one part is hurt the whole ecosystem can change. We need to protect ecosystems. We can plant trees. We can keep rivers clean. We can be careful not to litter. Every part of an ecosystem has a job. We are part of ecosystems too.
