Collecting Words from Stories

Notice interesting new words in books and figure them out.

Books are full of words we don't often say out loud, like 'enormous', 'curious', 'gather', and 'gentle'. These are great words to collect. When you read one, stop and notice it. Read the sentence again and use clues to guess its meaning.

Read: 'The curious kitten sniffed every box to see what was inside. ' The kitten wants to know what's inside, so curious means wanting to know or explore. Write the word in a word journal with a little drawing.

The more words you collect, the more you understand.
