Root words are the basic parts of a word that hold the main meaning. They can stand alone or be combined with prefixes and suffixes to create new words. For example, the root word 'play' can change to 'player' when we add the suffix '-er' or 'replay' when we add the prefix 're-'. Understanding root words helps you figure out the meaning of unfamiliar words. When you know the root, you can unlock many new words!
