Place value tells us the value of a digit based on its position in a number. In the thousands place, each digit represents a group of one thousand. For example, in the number 5,432, the digit '5' is in the thousands place, meaning it stands for 5,000. The number 4 is in the hundreds place, so it represents 400. This way, we can understand how big or small a number really is by looking at where each digit is located!
