Giving a Book Talk

A book talk is a short spoken pitch that makes classmates want to read a book.

A book talk is a short, lively presentation, usually one or two minutes, that convinces others to read a book. It isn't a full summary, so don't give away the ending! A strong book talk has four parts. Start with a hook: a question, a surprising line, or a dramatic moment. Then introduce the title, author, and genre.

Next, tease the plot by describing the main character and the problem, stopping before the climax. Finally, say who would enjoy it. For example: 'What would you do if your shadow started following someone else? That's what happens to Rosa in Shadow Swap by L. Kim, a fantasy novel. Rosa must chase her shadow across the city before it disappears forever.

If you like magic, mysteries, and a little bit of spooky, this book is for you. ' Practice once or twice so it sounds natural.
