Getting Hooked on a Series

Series books let you follow favorite characters across many adventures.

A series is a set of books that share characters, a setting, or a world. Some series tell one big story across several books, so you need to read them in order. Others have separate adventures in each book, so you can jump in anywhere. Series are great for building stamina and confidence because you already know the characters and the world, so each new book feels easier to start.

To figure out the order, look on the spine, the inside cover, or a list near the front that says 'Also in this series'. For example, a book labeled 'Book 3' with a back cover that says 'After escaping the sky pirates in Book 2... ' clearly continues a story, so start with Book 1. When you finish a series, think about what you liked most. That helps you find your next one.

• 1A series shares characters, setting, or a world.
• 2Some series must be read in order; others can be read in any order.
• 3Check the spine or 'Also in this series' list for order.
