Heat transfer happens when energy moves from one place to another, and it occurs in three main ways: conduction, convection, and radiation. Conduction is when heat moves through solid materials, like when a metal spoon gets hot in a pot of soup. Convection happens in liquids and gases, where warmer areas rise and cooler areas sink, like when hot air rises from a heater. Radiation is different because it doesn't need a medium to travel through; it moves through empty space, like the warmth you feel from the sun. Understanding heat transfer helps us in everyday life, like knowing why we wear oven mitts when taking out hot dishes!
