Text structure helps us understand how information is organized in writing. Different types of text structures include cause and effect, sequence, problem and solution, and compare and contrast. For example, in a cause and effect structure, one event causes another to happen. If we read about a plant wilting, we might find that it was caused by not enough water. Recognizing these patterns makes it easier to follow the author's ideas and remember key points. When we know the structure, we can better predict what will come next in the text.
