A food web shows how different plants and animals in an ecosystem are connected through what they eat. It starts with producers, like plants, which make their own food using sunlight. Then, herbivores, or plant-eating animals, like rabbits, eat the plants. Next, carnivores, or meat-eating animals, like foxes, eat the herbivores. Decomposers, such as fungi and bacteria, break down dead plants and animals, returning nutrients to the soil. For example, in a forest food web, a tree provides food for a rabbit, which is then eaten by a fox. This shows how energy flows through different living things in nature.
