Our class was putting on a play. I wanted to be in it but I was shy. The teacher said everyone could have a part. I tried out for a small role. I got it. I had to say three lines. I practiced every night. I said the lines in front of the mirror. Gradually I memorized them. I discovered that practice made me less nervous. The night of the play came. I stood backstage. My heart was pounding. Then it was my turn. I walked on stage. I said my lines. I did not forget a word. The audience clapped. I was so relieved. I had had an experience I would never forget. My teacher said I had done a magnificent job. I felt proud. I had considered quitting at the start. I was glad I had not. The opportunity to be in the play had changed me. I was less shy now. I exclaimed to my mom that I wanted to do it again. She smiled and said we would see. The play was over. But the memory would last forever.
