Comparing Themes Across Two Stories

Compare how two different stories share or differ in their themes.

Two very different stories can share the same theme. Comparing them helps you see how authors teach a lesson in different ways. Story A: A girl who is afraid of water practices every week and finally swims across the pool. Story B: A young bird keeps falling from the nest's edge but tries again until it flies.

The characters, settings, and events are different, but both share a theme: keep trying and you can overcome a challenge. To compare themes, first find each story's theme. Then ask: Are they the same, similar, or different? How does each story show it? Story A shows it through practice over time; Story B through repeated attempts in one day.
