Subtracting fractions with different denominators is a process that requires finding a common denominator. A denominator is the bottom number of a fraction, and it tells us how many equal parts something is divided into. For example, to subtract 1/4 from 2/3, we first find a common denominator. The smallest common denominator for 4 and 3 is 12. We can convert the fractions: 1/4 becomes 3/12 and 2/3 becomes 8/12. Now we can subtract: 8/12 - 3/12 = 5/12. So, 2/3 - 1/4 equals 5/12!
