The American Revolution was a war fought between 1775 and 1783. It was a struggle by the thirteen American colonies to gain independence from British rule. The colonists were unhappy with British taxes and laws, feeling they had no say in their own government. A famous event during this time was the Boston Tea Party, where colonists dumped tea into Boston Harbor to protest taxation without representation. The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783, which recognized the United States as an independent nation. This revolution changed the way people viewed government and the rights of individuals.
